The exhibitors are of all ages and come from various parts of Istria. Their nativity scenes are original, ranging from conventional to those made of sea pebbles, glass, chocolate, cutlery and even lego parts. So far, we have even witnessed an aquarium nativity scene and a nativity set made entirely out of paper. Participants use a wide variety of ideas, colours, shapes, sizes and materials. But the primary message behind these handicrafts stays the same: encouraging fellowship, forgiveness, gratitude and reviving the old forgotten Christmas customs. Therefore, there’s also a Christmas tree which is on this occasion decorated with candy or with handmade Christmas decorations, as it used to be decorated in the past in our modest Istrian homes.
From 2018 onwards the exhibition has additionally been enriched with a live nativity scene, along with domestic animals and free hot drinks and cakes.
