Water supplies in Žminj were always scarce, as evidenced by early travel writers. Žminj received its first public cistern before 1879, since during that year it was mentioned for the first time as (...) una grandiosa cisterna.

Žminj's cistern represents construction progress along the Istrian coast during the 19th century. The cistern still exists today, although not in its primary function, but is an important ambience piece and a base for our Bartulja and Štrigariji manifestations.
